About MMN

An unconventional biography of sorts

Michael Malone Nestor was born on February 8, 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio to John & Karen Nestor.   The youngest of three brothers including Mark & John, Michael quickly became known for his kind heart, sensitive spirit, and mischievous sense of humor.

At a young age, Michael developed a love for helping others through extensive volunteer work at MetroHealth Center for Skilled Nursing Care.  Working with severely disabled patients made a profound impact on Michael, later inspiring him to study hospitality at Cornell University, and spend the first half of his career working in some of the world’s finest hotels and resorts.

In 2009 Michael went back to school to get a Master’s Degree in Organization Leadership & Ethics.  At this same time he jumped into the non profit world, joining the amazing team at LIVESTRONG.  Michael spend the next decade working there and at Pelotonia to improve the lives of cancer survivors around the globe, and to fund innovative and lifesaving cancer research.

In July 2020, Michael was diagnosed with Myxoid Liposarcoma, an extremely rare soft tissue cancer.  Michael has been in cancer treatment ever since, and completed a below knee amputation on his right leg in November 2020.  Michael was honored with the Mary Hyatt Courage Award at the Pelotonia Opening Ceremony in 2021.

Michael passed away March 11, 2024 at the age of 44. He leaves behind a loving family, countless friends, and an inspirational legacy of kindness and courage.
